Week 2: Concept Art for Branding Logo
I wanted to try some new techniques I had discovered, to create a fluffy fur effect on text. I felt that it would work really well as a main logo for the game, as we had decided that we wanted our game to be both cute but violent, with the main character being a cute, cuddly panda.
First Iteration

I created this text based logo design in Photoshop. I was really please with how this effect worked, I added an overlay of purple blobs, though my team felt this reminded them of the milka cow!
Second Iteration

I researched pandas a bit more and realised they don’t have blobs of colour over their bodies, they are mainly white, with black arms, legs, ears and eyes. I tried a different technique on Photoshop which gave a more realistic fur aesthetic. I thought it might be fun to add panda ears on either side of the word PANDA, and to bunch the letters up together slightly to create a bloated look. I also played around with different fonts, utilising a horror style font for the second part of the word. I felt this referenced the genre combining nature of the game, with cute fluffy, but violent characters and gameplay. I used the same contrast colour that Hanni was using in her main character artwork.
Feedback on this iteration was that it was pretty epic, the ears were well-received but I still wanted to try to more iterations, add the fur graphic to both parts of the word. Anouk noted that it was a little difficult to make out the word panda, and this might cause some issues with accessibility.

For these two iterations, I added the fur effect on both words. I used a slightly different font for the second part, as I felt that it was more legible, and it made the word PANDA really stand out more in the bloated text. I added more drop shadow and tweaked the 3D elements to add more legibility to the word PANDA also. For iteration 4 I wanted to try adding a purple colour overlay.

I worked on a fifth version as I wanted to see how the furry effect worked on the dripping horror style font. I think it worked pretty well, but I do think the complexity of this font, along with the fluffy texture starts to make it difficult to read. Anouk felt that it would be better to have either all in the top font or all in the bottom, but not a mix of the two. Still waiting to hear from the rest of the team, so consider this work in progress.
