Week 2: Weekly Reflection on Ideation and Creativity Techniques.
This has been a really interesting week for me as I think to some extent, without realising, I have used some of the ideation techniques in my career as a fashion designer. Following the design stage of product development, I would receive a prototype. This is the point where serious lateral thinking takes place. You have to analyse the prototype to consider each element, from the zip, a buckle or a pocket. Does every feature make sense, is it appropriate to the style, is the fabrication correct and does it come in within budget? I never used any proven ideation techniques, but instead would just look at every detail and ask myself the same question…is this the best option?
Prototypes would often need to be totally redesigned. Sometimes a few tweaks here and there is enough to approve the final design. What proves to be more difficult, and what I found a challenge this week, was to take something that worked already perfectly well on it’s own and remediate it.
