Week 4: Time & Project Management
This week we are tasked with thinking about time management as we approach the reveal of a two week prototyping challenge activity.
One of the areas where I do know I struggle with is getting hung up on details of a concept, as well as over working prototypes. I have found that I often do this during the ideation phase. I get very excited by an idea and as my drawing skills are good, I like to create a visual prototype of the idea.
Moving forwards, this is an area where I want to develop my skills. I would like to be able to hold back on overworking ideas, and find that right level of prototyping that provides enough of a feeling of the finished product without taking too long (and subsequently costing too much) to produce .
I also think that over thinking ideas can be detrimental to the creative flow of ideas. The amount of times I've over prototyped a design (in my fashion work) only for the style to be cancelled is unbelievable. I've really learnt that a proto really needs to give an indication of function and design - not be the finished article.
I'd really also like to focus on time management over the next few weeks. I’ve had a difficult start to the Masters programme and had some family illnesses (as well as increased workload from my current job) that have somewhat swallowed up my time. I have found it quite difficult to get into a good rhythm where I dedicate a few hours every night to my studies. This has led me to a point where I need to find more time in order to catch up.
It would be very useful for me to explore Kanban boards to help visualise the workflow and gain a thorough overview of my workload.
